Renal Considerations in
HIV Management

Program Overview

This activity is a result of an international summit meeting of leading HIV treaters and nephrologists held in May 2007. This program offers a comprehensive, updated review of all aspects of renal dysfunction and HIV disease. The activity will summarize current opinion on the interactions of HIV infection and renal disease, including renal complications of HIV/AIDS and its therapies, disease-causative mechanisms, prevention, treatments, and outcomes.

Target Audience

This activity is intended for health care providers involved in the management of HIV-infected patients.

Educational Objectives

Upon the completion of this program participants will be able to:
Describe the risk factors for and impact of renal disease in patients with HIV, including special populations
Discuss how to monitor and manage renal function in patients with HIV on antiretroviral therapy
Outline management considerations to prevent or minimize the development of renal disease in patients with HIV
