LEARNING OBJECTIVES
As a result of participating in this educational monograph, physicians will be able to:

Identify key clinical factors related to antiretroviral sequencing and the importance of this strategy to avoid viral resistance.
Recognize new antiretroviral drugs in late clinical trials, as well as their potential place in HAART therapy.
Highlight tools to identify risk factors, detect, and treat hepatitis co-infections in patients with HIV/AIDS.
Examine the pathogenesis of HIV infection, including the stages of progression, and which opportunistic infections and malignancies HIV patients may be at higher risk for developing.
Assess epidemiologic issues related to both the global and US epidemic of HIV/AIDS.
Understand and implement important techniques to ensure adherence with HAART regimens and avoid side effects and toxicities.
