CROI 2015: Retrovirus Conference Starts Monday in Seattle

The 2015 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) takes place next week, February 23-26, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. CROI focuses on HIV treatment, prevention, and basic science. For the past several years it has also included substantial hepatitis C content, and this year will feature presentations on Ebola virus. Among the highlights of this year's meeting:

• Antiretroviral drugs in development, including the more kidney-friendly tenofovir alafenamide and a novel HIV maturation inhibitor.
• New data from the UK PROUD and French IPERGAY studies of Truvada for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
• Findings from the FACTS 001 trial of tenofovir gel for HIV prevention for women.
• HIV cure research, including neutralizing antibodies and factors affecting viral rebound.
• HIV-associated conditions including cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, neurocognitive disorders, and tuberculosis.
• Global access to HIV care and treatment outcomes.
• Hepatitis C in the interferon-free era, including managing HCV genotype 3 and the cost of treatment.
• Studies of interferon-free hepatitis C therapy for HIV/HCV coinfected people.
• Experimental treatment and vaccines for Ebola virus and the Médecins Sans Frontières experience with the current outbreak.
