• Three definitions of wasting were used.1 As you can see here, 84 individuals lost more than 10% of their body weight since their initial, baseline visit.

• A higher number, 99 subjects, lost more than 5% of their usual body weight during a period of six months. This weight loss was sustained for one year or more.

• Finally, 39 individuals met the third definition of wasting by having a body mass index of less than 20 kg/m2 since their last study visit.

• A total of 156 individuals, a third of the cohort, met at least one of the criteria for wasting. Since some met more than one definition, these subjects appear in more than one group.
