Treatment with growth hormone has been evaluated in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial.1
The study enrolled 178 patients with HIV infection who had documented unintentional weight loss of at least 10%, or who had a weight less than 90% of the lower limit of ideal body weight.
Participants received either recombinant human growth hormone or placebo. Dosing was 0.1 mg/kg of body weight per day, with an average of 6 mg/day.
The study length was 12 weeks. Various outcome assessments were conducted at baseline, 6- and 12-week periods, including weight and body composition measurements.
