Retroviruses Conference Starts Sunday in Boston

The
15th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections – better
known as CROI – gets underway this coming Sunday, February 3, at the Hynes Convention Center
in Boston.
The Retrovirus conference is the major annual U.S.
scientific meeting devoted to the virology, epidemiology, prevention, and treatment
of HIV disease.
A few of the many interesting presentations scheduled
for next week include:
Data from a randomized controlled trial of therapeutic
drug monitoring.
Outcomes
in patients who re-started therapy after treatment interruption in the SMART
study.
48-week data on Schering-Plough’s experimental CCR5
antagonist. vicriviroc.
Studies of HIV treatment in resource-limited settings.
Details from the recently
halted STEP trials of the Merck
V520 HIV vaccine.
The latest results from African trials of adult male
circumcision for HIV prevention.
New data on prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission.
