Glucose: Diagnostic Criteria for Impaired Glucose Tolerance

Oral Glucose
Tolerance Test

Criteria (mg/dL)
Fasting < 140 mg/dL
2 hours (post 75g glucose load)
140-199 mg/dL
One intermediate value
(0.5, 1.0, 1.5 hour)
> 200 mg/dL

• The National Diabetes Data Group (NDDG) has established a different set of criteria for diagnosing impaired glucose tolerance by using the oral glucose-tolerance test.1

• A fasting result of less than 140 mg/dL indicates impaired glucose tolerance.

• The same holds true if a 2-hour result after a 75 gm glucose load falls within the range of 140 to 199 mg/dL.

• If one intermediate value is 200 mg/dL or more, this is also diagnostic for impaired glucose tolerance.
