The accuracy of a viral load test is greatest if some simple guidelines are followed:

          -  Different viral load tests may report slightly different results. It is important to
have blood tested at the same clinic, using the same testing method.
          -  Follow the physician’s treatment guidelines carefully. Not following treatment
guidelines can lead to an increase in viral load, and possibly allow the HIV-1
virus to become resistant to the drugs being taken.
          -
Notify the physician if another kind of infection (like a cold) arises or
vaccinations have recently been given. Vaccinations or infections might lead to
a momentary increase in viral load
.
